How to Make Your Messaging More Customer-Centric

Want to be more customer-centric with your messaging?

Don't make your customers work hard to figure out what you do.

People don't shop for "increasing revenue" even if that's their number 1 goal.

These high-level goals are extremely multi-faceted, and are separated from your product by several levels.

Unless your startup is a literal money-printer (not metaphorically)... you likely are not doing them any favors by leading with "we'll increase your revenue!"

Prospects see this and immediately call bullshit.

Instead...

1. Treat your customers like adults

  • unless they're problem unaware (in which case, you probably don't want to target them as a startup) realize they already have guesses about how to solve specific aspects of the high level problems

2. Don't patronize them by promising things you can't promise

  • by leading with "increase revenue," you fall into the bucket of YouTube ads saying "buy my course and become a millionaire"

3. Connect the dots for them

  • If you're a data enrichment tool, justĀ say that!Ā
  • And then say why you're the BEST data enrichment tool out there.
