The Challenges of being “All-In-One”

Trying to be an "all-in-one" product is dangerous for startups.

There's a growing trend of startups that take existing (beloved) solutions and try to bundle them together to create something new.

"We're like Slack + Miro + Notion all-in-one.”

The problem founders think they are solving:

"It's so annoying to have to switch from app to app."

The solution founders think they're introducing:

"Now you can do it all in one place!"

But is this really a problem?

  • App switching takes one button click (or swipe)
  • We've been doing this for the 2+ decades

And the solution just isn't believable...

  • Will you really have feature-parity with all these heavyweights?
  • Can your five person team really outperform these multi-billion dollar companies?
  • Will your solution be good enough that'll I'll go through the pains of leaving all of my favorite solutions?

"The database has been truly invaluable to me as I build out my product marketing messaging for pre-selling a landing page for the SaaS app I'm building. Thank you so much for making this knowledge accessible for early-stage founders!"
