Airtable can go after seven segments at once.
You, early-stage startup, likely CANNOT afford it.
Here is a very rough estimate of the types of roles you would need to truly penetrate multiple segments at once:
1) PMM
Salary: $110,000
Running Total: $110,00
2) Account Executive
Salary: $100,000 OTE
Running Total: $210,000
3) SDR
Salary: $60,000
Running Total: $270,000
4) CSM
Salary: $90,000
Running Total: $360,000
5) Solutions Engineer
Salary: $110,000
Running Total: $470,000
6) Demand Gen Marketer
Salary: $90,000
Running Total: $560,000
You would likely want one of these roles for EACH segment
(so multiply the total by 7):
Running Total: $3,920,000
You would also likely want several centralized roles that work across ALL your target segments:
7) Content (3x)
Salary: $80,000
Running Total: $4,160,000
8) Data Analyst (2x)
Salary: $90,000
Running Total: $4,340,000
9) Operations & Enablement (3x)
Salary: $90,000
Running Total: $4,610,000
10) Partnerships & Enablement (2x)
Salary: $100,000
Running Total: $4,810,000
11) VP of Sales
Salary: $200,000
Running Total: $5,010,000
12) VP of Marketing
Salary: $200,000
Running Total: $5,210,000
A few caveats:
→ these salaries are loose estimates
(obviously, you could recalculate with higher or lower salary numbers)
→ these salary numbers don't include benefits
(so it would be much higher for each employee)
→ while you might argue you could away with smaller teams, it's interesting to note that Airtable has exponentially MORE go-to-market-focused employees (based on LinkedIn, they have 72 in "business development" and 22 in "marketing").
→ these estimates do not include tooling or advertising costs
→ if your product has extremely powerful virality or bottoms-up community-led growth, you likely will be able to activate a lot of segments simultaneously with a fraction of this. But if you're going to be relying on traditional marketing & sales motions, then this is likely what you'd be dealing with
