Where should you put your interactive product demo on your homepage?
(Hint ā it's probably not where you think š)
Had an interesting dialogue with
Natalie MarcotullioĀ fromĀ NavatticĀ about interactive product demos.
If you're a PLG company, an interactive embeddable demo is THE FASTEST WAY to get people to experience your product.
ā They don't need to create an account...
ā They don't need to log in...
ā They just have to CLICK one thing on your webpage.
Unfortunately, most web visitors are... well, lazy š„±
People don't want to click ANYTHING ā
Usage data shows that when you put a video in your hero, hardly anyone clicks it... and those that DO click it only watch a tiny bit of it.
So how do you drive people to actually CLICK the interactive demo?
The answer
ā Ā Ā you need to explain what the product is/does BEFORE you give them the opportunity to try it.
Here's an analogy:
ā Imagine you're at a restaurant trying out a new type of food you've never had before
ā You friend holds up a piece of some kind of unidentifiable meat on a fork and says "you've GOT TO TRY THIS"
ā The first thing you will say "what is it?"
VERY RARELY will anyone just try something new without any context...
ā³ but that's EXACTLY what countless companies do by putting their interactive demos too high on their page.
Explain the who, what, where, and why and THEN show them the demo.
